Thankful Thursday & including Three-Words-A-Day

I

do not recall ever looking so hard for signs of spring as we are this year!Thankful Thursday Yesterday my husband pointed out patches of green grass where a bit of snow has melted.  The calendar says today  is the first day of spring, but, the thermometer sure is not agreeing as we keep stoking up the wood furnace. The prediction for next week is numerous days not even getting above freezing.  Ugh.  3 WordsI did hang sheets out this past week to dry, opened some windows briefly just to get some fresh air in the house and we are trying to force grow some spring flowers in the house.  If it won’t do it outside, then bring it inside! My youngest daughter is wearing shorts and a tank top today – she told me it’s spring so she’s dressing like it!  So we can kinda pretend spring is here – though it seems right now it may never arrive!grandbaby

So what am I thankful for?  Of course, I remain thankful for the sweetness our grandbaby brings us. She certainly is the spark in our lives and when with us, there’s always arms ready to hold and love on her. She’s almost 6 months old and we are enjoying her new growing experiences and especially watching her mama, (our daughter) as she continues to enjoy motherhood and the newness of each new delight with her baby.

I am thankful, that, overall besides slight colds, we’ve had a very healthy winter. No flu bugs.  I am so very thankful for a warm house and a man who has worked so very well with my husband delivering wood.  I am thankful that finally on Monday we will be getting propane after being nearly empty for many  weeks.  I feel it’s been like the miracle of feeding the 5000. The last time we got propane was beginning of September, and it was not even a complete fill . . . and somehow, it’s lasted over six months – for 7 of us and before Christmas was 8 of us! It’s amazing how quick we can take showers and how quickly clothes drying just hanging on hangers in the bathroom and bedrooms.  I am so looking forward to using the oven after several months not using with trying to conserve the propane.

panI am thankful for my new big deep frying pan I found at Good Will about a month ago, thinking it would help to make some meals in it rather than using the stove or oven. My family likes it too. I had never made fried chicken before.  I’d do the “Shake-n-Bake” type and stick it in the oven. I really had never fully fried chicken.  Well, it’s been a hit here and it’s an easy economical meal to make!  I am thankful the way God provided again with the frying pan and enjoyment from it for the family.

I am thankful that my dad is healthy especially since the death of my mom, ten years tomorrow.  I am thankful that he has done well with a recent major move to another state and is adjusting.  I am thankful for his recent encouragement when I have been discouraged.

And just as God promises joy in the morning, and so often the night seem so long before that joy comes again, just like that joy that does come,  I am thankful spring is coming!

Thankful Thursday ~ Sibling Compassion

older kids

T

oday I am especially thankful how our kids interact with each other, and are very willing to help each other out.  Being quite concerned for one of our boys, and trying to help him make wise choices, I am so very thankful for two of his brothers so very willing to help and encourage him, along with several of his friends.  It gives this mama a lot of peace, when it seems so many fail us with lack of commitments and compassion, knowing the siblings will always look out for each other even during the ups and downs of life and when one may offend, forgiveness with them is quick.  It thrills both my husband and I when we hear our married couples are getting together for an evening.  Tonight a younger sister is with an older married sister, the older helping the younger with making CD’s.  How blessed they are to have the compassion of their siblings!

Thank you Father.

Thankful Thursday ~ WARMTH

O

h, I sure do not like the bitter cold.  It can be hard to be thankful for that – but to combat it, I am thankful for our wood heat (just got a cord of apple wood) and our pellet stove, and to be able to turn on the electric blanket before climbing in bed.

Nederlands: Beddenpan, met geel koperen klep (...

This past Christmas I made quite a few rice bags for the kids – and several of them warm them up real hot in microwave and take them to bed with them.  It’s probably like in the old days when people would use a bed warmer – a pan filled with hot coals and put under the bed covers – or a hot water bottle.

Sometimes at night before bed, I put dry PJ’s and towels in the dryer while I take a shower.  That is warm luxury for sure!

It is so much easier now – and probably a lot warmer.

Thank you Father.

Thankful Thursday – Yes, I am thankful for the snow!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I

am thankful for all the snow and beautiful landscapes our Creator has displayed.   No, I am not thrilled with near zero temperatures, but am certainly thankful for our wood heat and pellet stove that has kept our house cozy warm.  I am also thankful our electricity only flickered off and on a few times, but never stayed off.

And I am very thankful after months of dealing with a very temperamental water heater – meaning cold water or no showers many mornings, my husband was able to fix it with a $15 part.  I am even more thankful for hot showers!

I am also very thankful for the three four extended days it’s given our girls before going back to school. Our homeschooling took the three snow days too.  I am sure our kids are all thankful!

Thank you Father.

Thankful Thursday

I

am thankful especially today, seeing the loving things our kids do to encourage each other.   It may seem small, but I see how they are growing up and thinking of others – such as my 19yo son seeing his sister had a friend over and did her dinner chore of washing all the dishes – without saying anything. An older sister spending the day with a younger one.  A daughter (12) doing numerous extra loads of laundry WITHOUT being asked – what an encouragement and help for me and her sisters.  A son-in-law coming over and helping my husband stack wood for winter burning.  And this evening, the kitchen being full with kids, laughing, sneaking food – and a grandbaby cooing.

I am blessed!  Thank you Father.

Thankful Thursday ~ Heartaches & Thankfulness

J

ust extra thankful for the dear people in my life . . . to see the way God has interwoven our lives …. some dear friends since childhood, I’ve stayed in touch with and current ones God has put into my life who have been special encouragements along the way. I am blessed with an amazing sister-in-law who has faced her own major health trials and pastors who don’t “just” pray but empathize & care . . . and my husband who was also protective in a specific situation not wanting more pains to come into our lives, yet so willing to move forward, even if it meant more pain, and then, caring when it did/does hurt.  Yes, this is vague– God knows, and those special people in our lives know, and I just am very thankful how Jesus is shown in so many of you.

Thankful Thursday

E

specially thankful for the time I had with my grand-daughter today – talking to her while she was wide awake for over an hour, and then rocking her to sleep and even pushing her around in the grocery store! What a precious time!  AND, she is a month old and weighs 10.5 lbs already! What a blessing she is!

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful especially today as I reminisce that:

sun1

G

od is sheer mercy and grace;
not easily angered, He’s rich in love.
He doesn’t endlessly nag and scold,
nor hold grudges forever.
He doesn’t treat us as our sins deserve,
nor pay us back in full for our wrongs.
As high as heaven is over the earth,
so strong is His love to those who fear Him.
And as far as sunrise is from sunset,
He has separated us from our sins.
