Five Minute Friday: GRASP

GRASP

start . . .

It’s funny again, with this week’s word, grasp because last week I shared a verse from Ephesians which my small group from church is going through which had that Friday’s Five Minute word in it.  We met again tonight, and talked of these verses below, and even shared it with a friend a little later.  This is Paul’s prayer for the Ephesian church . . . something we can turn into a prayer as well – or insert someone else’s name…  Note, the word, grasp

That’s why, when I heard of the solid trust you have in the Master Jesus and your outpouring of love to all the followers of Jesus, I couldn’t stop thanking God for you—every time I prayed, I’d think of you and give thanks. But I do more than thank. I ask—ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory—to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing Him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is He is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life He has for His followers, oh, the utter extravagance of His work in us who trust Him—endless energy, boundless strength!
Ephesians 1:15-19

Often we wish to grasp onto moments . . . times gone by.  One of my friends wrote on Facebook tonight that she had just made a white chocolate latte and after stirring, was flooded with memories of good times she shared with me and another close friend at a coffee shop that now is closed. Her writing this made me wish I could reach back and  grasp onto that time . . . before she moved too many states away, before our son died, before divorce touched my other friend, before heartbreaks and life changes.   Yes, there’s some moments I wish to grasp on to . . . and others, so wish the time never grasped onto me.  There’s times in our life journeys we do not know what to grasp onto, how to let the pain go, yet, God does have something glorious for us to grasp . . .  and though right now it may not seem so, for eternities perspective, it can help us to grow.  It pains when we see people we love grasp things that will hurt them and they seem to be turning from God, yet, God can soften hearts to change, and pursue them to grasp back onto Jesus and His glorious ways.

  1. Oh my — you leave me grasping. I do it so often — grasp for those precious memories. I think I’ve grasped 🙂 a lot this year as my son married and that seems unreal. Where are all those days — all those memories — and great time — oh how I want to grasp!!! Blessings from 5MF!

  2. This is some beautiful, heart filled writing. I know what you mean…. this is my first time here… I love writing five minute friday posts and hope to get back into the Thursday pre-party. My surgery for cancer – melanoma – sort of spun me around a bit, naturally… but left me knowing I have exceptionally fine friends help me oh so well… and yes, perhaps soon we’ll share a yummy latte together, too. :~) Nice to meet you! I want to check out your Tuesday In “other” words (I thought, at first it was In Of Her Words!! LOL)
