Then Jesus made a circuit of all the towns and villages. He taught in their meeting places, reported kingdom news, and healed their diseased bodies, healed their bruised and hurt lives. When he looked out over the crowds, his heart broke. So confused and aimless they were, like sheep with no shepherd. “What a huge harvest!” he said to his disciples. “How few workers! On your knees and pray for harvest hands!”

In Other Words ~ Is God your Pilot or Co-Pilot?

“We need to get to the point where we are tired of God just being a resident of our life
and make Him President of our life,
the Commander and Chief,
the One in charge.”

~ David Jeremiah

E

God CoPilotvery so often I still see this bumper sticker or license plate, “God is my Co-Pilot”.   I want to yell out the window – “STOP!  Get out!  Move over!  Let God be your PILOT!”  But then I think, how often do we let God be our Co-Pilot – or even the back seat passenger? What place does He truly have in our lives?

henI think it’s even easier as a mom, to hand our children over to God, say “they are Yours” but when we go through the struggles of raising them either we want to try to fix their problems, their rebellion, their sicknesses “ourselves” going around like a frantic mother hen and then, after we have done this, not resolving anything, we throw our hands up and shove them back to God (and in a short time take them back again).

I think of how we idolize others.  We  get in long lines to see famous people – to touch them, to get their autograph – just a glimpse of them.  We wear t-shirts with their name on it, or their name on a label.  We blog about them, we read their blogs or buy a magazine because their picture is on the cover.  We say someone is awesome, but isn’t, only God, truly awesome?  Have we taken away the superiority of God? Do we really know Him and want to learn more about Him as we do those in movies or on TV?

flagI am thankful for the country I live in, and the freedoms I still have (though I am concerned).  I love going to parades, and standing up as war veterans pass by holding our American flag.  We stand up to honor and respect them and our flag.  If a flag touches the ground, we burn it.  But what about God’s Word?  BibleDo we respect it.? Where is it “thrown” after the Sunday service?  Does it gather dust through out the week?  Is God’s word memorized as we memorize the verses of songs?  Do we pour over it as we do a novel or the newspaper?  Is God truly in charge with His Word, in our putting Him first as Commander and Chief of everything?

As I write this, I know God is prompting me, again, where I don’t put Him first and make Him Ruler of all.  May we be continually reminded of our Awesome Holy God and be in awe of Him. Is God your my Pilot or Co-Pilot?

“What I believe is so magnificent, so glorious, that it is beyond finite comprehension. To believe that the universe was created by a purposeful, benign Creator is one thing. To believe that this Creator took on human vesture, accepted death and mortality, was tempted, betrayed, broken, and all for love of us, defies reason. It is so wild that it terrifies some Christians who try to dogmatize their fear by lashing out at other Christians, because tidy Christianity with all answers given is easier than one which reaches out to the wild wonder of God’s love, a love we don’t even have to earn.”

In Other Words: Heaven is My Home

cross

There’s a part of heaven in me.  I think of a little girl in heaven, my little girl, Angela Hope, running through the green fields, by still waters, dancing in a pure white dress for Jesus, having never know the pain of life on earth, but seeing Jesus first, before anyone else.  I think of a tall lanky boy, my son, Matthew, in awe, still, of all that he beholds, touching the hole prints again of his Jesus he learned of as a boy that brought him to his knees to accept Him as his personal Savior.  I think of godly grandparents in heaven, who were a foundation of both my life and my husband’s life.  I think of my mom, healed in so many different ways.  I think of my dear friend Nancy I miss so often, with her little grandson.  There’s others I’ve said good-bye to, that I so look forward to never having to say good-bye to again.

However the biggest part of heaven in me is because of Jesus.  The peace I have that my loved ones are in heaven is only because of Jesus.   This week is Passion Week, remembering all He did for each of us individually, taking the rejection, the beatings, the personal agony and pain of death, so I personally, and you personally, may go to heaven.  He made heaven a part of us, if we only accept Him.  And, it’s not complicated.

“Truly I say to you,
whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child
will not enter it at all.”

Luke 18:17

I love the simpleness of children’s faith.  I remember one of my children asking why I was so sad, because Matthew is happy, in heaven and has no pain, and we WILL see him again!  Another time I noticed one of my children not buckled up in the car and after the reminder was asked why I worry so much because if we got in an accident and died, we’d just go to heaven!

If you reject Jesus, you are not only rejecting Him, you are rejecting Heaven – eternal life.  The only way Heaven can be a part of us, is if we have accepted Jesus.  Have you?

“For God so loved the world,
that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish,
but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

Love needs to be based on character, if you know and love God you see He has a lot of character we are in love with. The best thing we can do for our spouse is to grow in character as listed in 1 Cor 13. It’s a love of choice. We choose to love God, He chooses to love us. Love of choice is the most powerful love, God calls that agape love, it’s a love that lasts, we should never settle for anything else between us and God and others. It’s a love that grows. Keep fervent in your love, allow it to stretch and strain as you watch it grow.

In Other Words: Caution ~ Road Slippery When Wet

Scautioneveral times on the way home Saturday night with our five youngest children in our van, my husband noted that something was wrong with the steering.  He thought maybe it was just the black icy roads, yet whenever we came to a curve or turn, the van just did not seem to handle well.  We did not think too much of it once we got home.  Maybe because we did not want to.  This is the slower time for my husband’s business and who wants to think of paying for car repair bills.  We did not go to church Sunday morning since we had sick little ones.  Sunday afternoon we had to pick up our older children from a winter retreat.  Not even thinking of the steering problems of the previous night, we left.  Our driveway has a slight incline, that can be hard to get out of on these long  wintery days, and as my husband turned to steering wheel at the end of the driveway,we stopped.   We weren’t going anywhere.

The tie rod at the front came loose.  One wheel was going one way, the other  turning the opposite direction.  We were so thankful this did not happen when we took our young children out the previous night.   It could have been very dangerous, even life threatening.  Instead, it happened at the end of our driveway.  I am so thankful for the way God protected our family and even others that could have been around us.

We ignored the warning signs.  We just did not want to think about repairing a car.  Sometimes when we do this ignoring, we hope it will just disappear.  Our Christian walk can be the same way.  I think of the little quote someone wrote in one of my Bibles inside the front cover:

Sin will keep you from this Book.
This Book will keep you from sin.

God gives us many warnings and guidelines throughout His Word.  We can become overwhelmed with life, with bills (and car repairs) and neglect going to Him.  The warning signs are there- we become unhappy, more irritable, worried about tomorrow.  We are missing God’s directions in His Word, giving us peace, reminding us He’s not forgetting us, giving us promises for that day for that time in our lives.

What cautions AND promises does God want to give you today?  Have you visited His Word?

“CAUTION: Road Slippery When Wet”

Amy shares why she chose this quote, to help you write about it: It may seem strange but I want to focus on the fact that every action has a consequence and God gives us warning signs throughout the Bible so that we can live by them and avoid “accidents”.
