Guest Article: Ways To Fortify Your Apartment

My kids have gone through numerous experiences living in an apartment,
including a boxed crib getting stolen from hallway,
hubcaps off a car, and a major
gas leak in the apartment.
It’s worth taking cautions!

partment living can be a bit more limited than living in a home. Apartments are governed by your land lord. You may have a limited ability to make sure you are safe. Do not worry though! There are ways to fortify your apartment to make it safer. You just need to be diligent about safety for you and your family. Here are some tips on how to fortify your apartment and make your apartment a safer place for your family.

Start With Your Car

blogIt may seem a bit strange to focus on your car before your apartment, but cars are very vulnerable. They tell the world more about you than you know. Burglars may be watching you when you least expect it. If you leave anything of value in your car, then you just became a target. Burglars will not only steal from your car, but will watch for where you live too. That means your home just became more dangerous. Never leave any valuable objects inside of your car. Not even for a day. It is not worth the risk of becoming a burglar magnet. At night, try to park near lights and where other cars are. You might be afraid of door dings, but a car all alone is asking to be broken into.

Apartment Safety

Keeping your apartment safe starts with not exposing your goods. Don’t leave your blinds open to the world, showing off your big screen TV and laptops. Burglars will know there is something that they want when you allow them to look in. If you want some light in your home, hang some white drapes. They let in light, but don’t allow others to see inside. It is a great way to stay safe and get some sunlight.

blogAlways keep your doors locked while at your apartment. Also, it is very important to keep your windows locked too. Don’t forget to lock them after you open them, and of course never leave windows open at night while you are asleep. Another thing you can do is get a dog, if your landlord allows it. A dog can scare off any intruders who may try to enter your home. Barking dogs can be scary to someone knowing they are breaking in, and may be enough to make them think twice about it.

If you are not feeling safe about your apartment, maybe consider moving into a home. Buying or renting a home means that you might be able to install a Stafford home security system. Security systems can be a great way to stay safer. With a Barker home security system, you will know if someone is trying to enter your home at night with the sound of an alarm. Homes also allow you to do more with safety. You can install better locks and keep your home lit at night. Apartments are very limited on allowing yourself to stay protected. Depending on the landlord, you might ask if you can install a security system. It never hurts to ask!
