How to Prevent Home Damage From Storms

This week my daughter & son-in-law will be closing on their first house and moving in!
This article  is one of the many things as new home owners they will have to consider.

torms are unavoidable, blog they are forces of nature that cannot be stopped or prevented, but you can still protect yourself and your home from them. Your home is one of the biggest investments you’ll make in your life. It’s something that you end up paying off the majority of your life, so the last thing you want to do is have to pay for any damages caused by storms. There are simple and easy precautions you can to prepare your home for damaging weather. Here are a few steps you could take to help protect your home.

1. Landscaping

blogLook for any bushes or shrubs that could break and fall on your home. Also, if you have any type of lawn furniture, make sure you cover it or move it inside in case of a bad storm. There has been times where lawn furniture has blown into the house and caused damage. One of the biggest causes of damage to your home is done by the trees and bushes around your home. The first step you should take to prepare yourself for any type of weather, should be to remove any possible threats from the landscape around you. Take a good look around your home and look for any possible tree branches that might fall on your roof or cars.

2. Roof & Gutters

blogThe whole point of a gutter system is to move water from your roof to the ground while prevent water damage. Another quick fix for preparing you home for a storm is your roof and gutters. Make sure that there’s nothing blocking the flow of water from the gutters to the ground.

3. Security Systems

I found this home security company called, Smith Security, that developed an app that allows you to control just about every part of your home from the app. The company does majority of their work with Dallas/Fort Worth security systems but are branching out and growing to the surrounding areas like Mansfield home security, among others. Some home security systems have apps available to help control the security system. Most security system apps have a weather option that allows you to see and track the weather in your area. Some are even able to send you a push notification to your phone to alert your of any dangerous weather in your area or headed to you. Any home alarm system can be useful to protect your home in a variety of ways.
