Daily Prompt: All Grown Up

Daily Prompt: All Grown Up
When was the first time you really felt like a grown up (if ever)?

I

had been away at college for a semester or two, and was back home during a break. I could see and feel the difference in my relationship with my parents.  There was not nearly as much parenting or questioning of my decisions.  But the thing that sticks out the most in my mind of that time was protecting my mom.  She was driving me back to where I was meeting up with my ride for my trip back to college.  Suddenly in front of us a tire popped off someone’s car and went in the air towards us.  I yelled for my mom to watch out and put my arm out in front of her, as though to protect her from going through the windshield.   I don’t know if she even noticed, but I remember thinking how roles could slowly change, and it could be me caring for her.  Sadly, we went our separate ways after this, and I did not have the opportunity.  We both missed out on some special relationship times.
