If you could un-invent something, what would it be?

I

f I could un-invent one thing, I would not hesitate with video games.  I’ve seen it cause such divisions.  I’ve seen it be so addictive.  And, as a mom, it’s easy to let my kids play the games so I can get stuff done.  But when my six year old cries because he wants to play longer after a couple of hours, I know I’ve let a problem slip by.  I’ve seen young marrieds get upset with one another when one wants to spend time talking rather than trying to get words in against the gaming.  It’s hard to know when to pull the plug.

If I had to do it all over again, I’d never let an x-box or gameboy or some of the computer games come into our home.  But it was slipped in by one of our almost adult children numerous years ago and now the younger ones are hooked on it too.  So, not only do I see my older kids playing it, my youngest ones are as well . . . even asking for new ones for a birthday!   At times I’ve said they can play as long on the Wii as they do helping with clean-up and chores.  Of course I get the quick roll of the eyes.

I suppose there’s numerous things in our lives that would equal it – from tv shows, to mom reading blogs to even reading books too much and forgetting what is going on around us. It’s learning to keep things in perspective . . . and encouraging our kids with good disciplines too!

  1. I agree, once you have opened the door to these things it’s very hard to turn back. I have technology free Tuesdays when I turn off the computer and my cell phone because they create so much mental clutter and and are time thieves
