Thankfulness Through Song ~ “Press On” {Day 7}

esterday, my 16 year old daughter and I worked at an election poll for 17 hours.  It was a long day, but  exciting too.  I enjoyed greeting the voters and getting them set to vote. It was neat seeing young voters excited about their first time voting.  It was encouraging to see those in uniform vote, and others thanking them for their service.  The talk was not about who they were going to vote for.  The excitement was the community of voters, catching up on each other’s lives and family news and just the time to be together for the same reason – to vote.

Then reading through blog posts and FaceBook statuses today, many of my friends are sad . . . angry . . .and painting pictures of doom and gloom.  I am disappointed, but the thought since last night has been, God is still on the throne.  He IS the King of Kings.  He says we will go through hard times.  Maybe our nation as a whole needs to be woken up to our lack of dependence on Him and leaving Him out of so much.  It really should not be a fight of who “lost” but how we can bring God in.  There will be a “fight” to keep our country to get back to “In God We Trust”  yet us Believers can certainly show His light in a dark nation.

I appreciate what my highschool classmate from many years ago said on Facebook today,

. . . If the election did not go the way you wanted it to, what are your friends and family members learning about you and your Savior by the way you are reacting? Our nation is in a tough spot, and we have tremendous challenges ahead of us. My personal conviction is that these challenges can be met by a church truly surrendered to Jesus. So, as we step into this new day, let us remember that the world is observing us too, and in doing so learning of our Lord.

So now what?  We Press On

When the valley is deep
When the mountain is steep
When the body is weary
When we stumble and fall

When the choices are hard
When we’re battered and scarred
When we’ve spent our resources
When we’ve given our all

In Jesus’ name, we press on
In Jesus’ name, we press on
Dear Lord, with the prize
Clear before our eyes
We find the strength to press on

I am thankful we can press on.  Despite how the future may look, God is, and always will be, in control.  I am thankful that the  “kingship belongs to the Lord, and He rules over the nations.” (Psalm 22:28)  I am thankful we can pray for our President & his family and that God desires to have their hearts as well.
