ne word that so many of us shutter to hear is “cancer”. Yet at sometime in our lives, it will touch us personally either with ourselves, a spouse, parent, sibling, child or close friend. Often we do not know what to do or what to say to someone who has cancer.
I have an amazing sister-in-law who I have known for almost thirty years. We knew each other when we were dating brothers in college, and now married to! She had cancer the first time over 16 years ago. Just over a year ago she went through another battle with breast cancer and it’s been a long, painful journey of healing for her. So when I was given the opportunity to read and review Strength Renewed: Meditations for Your Journey through Breast Cancer, I was hoping it to give me another glimpse into her journey, and it has. And I am also thankful to have a resource to give to someone new who may be facing this journey, as an encouragement for them.
Strength Renewed is the story of Shirley Corder’s cancer journey written into 90 meditations, in the way that her story unfolds. She shares very personally the ups and downs, along with Scripture verses and at the end, questions that the reader can relate to in their own journey. Though this is written for the breast cancer patient, after reading this myself, I believe family and close friends of those going through breast cancer would find it very beneficial in reading to get a glimpse of what their loved one is going through.
My sister-in-law is one to reach out to others who are going through the same thing as she has and has a very caring heart. I plan on giving Strength Renewed to her and know she will also find the right person to give this to for encouragement.
I received a copy of Strength Renewed at no cost for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own and were not otherwise compensated. This book is now available from your favorite bookseller of Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.”
