few days ago I shared about the book I am reading, The Me I Want to Be: Becoming God’s Best Version of You by John Ortberg (e-book still free at time of this post). I’m still reading it! Here is something that struck me, especially to share for this 31 Days of Woman Just Believe Me.
Mr. Ortberg writes:
The Bible does not say we are God’s appliance; it says you are His masterpiece. Appliances get mass-produced. Masterpieces get handcrafted. God did not make you exactly like anyone else. Therefore His plan for shaping you will not look like His plan for shaping anyone else.
I am often told how much our children look alike. My twins do not look like “twins” – one has brown hair with brown eyes; the other is blonde with blue eyes. But a couple of our younger daughters looks so much like them. Yet, there are differences. Even with identical twins, though it may take a lot to really figure out the “little” difference, there is something. No two people are exactly like. Each of us are unique masterpieces of God. No mass production. Can you imagine how boring it would be if we all looked alike?
And it does not end there. We each have unique abilities and gifts in various combinations that He wants each of us personally to use them for His glory – something only we can personally do for Him. It’s easy to say “I am just a mom” or “I can’t sing” or “I can’t talk in front of people” . . . . but there IS something you can do for Him. It may be just sitting with an elderly person and talking with him. . . or helping in the church nursery, holding a crying baby for an hour so a mama can get a break from her colicky baby and be renewed. Maybe it’s baking a cake for a friend, or helping a neighbor clean his garage.
This past week a woman in our church asked me if we have someone heading up the cleaning after our daughter’s wedding, which is in just a couple of weeks and if not, she would do it. It was such a blessing for me and took such a load off my shoulders to know that I have one less thing to worry about. It just made my heart sing! What a gift she gave our family and how honoring to God to be so servant-hearted.
So, what is God telling you to believe?
“Woman, just believe Me.“
You are one of a kind,
a copyrighted masterpiece.
You have unique gifts
only you can do
at the right time for Me.
