start . . .
I’ve only been home an hour or so . . . from a community of women and girls – family – gathered together to bless my daughter with a bridal shower. There was a lot of laughter, joy, giggles and whispers in anticipation of a wedding, in less than a month now. Aunts, cousins, sisters, grandmother and mom and mom-in-law to be watching a glowing bride-t0-be open gifts, have fun playing games and eat wonderful food brought by this community of family. While we were celebrating, the brothers, uncles, grandpa, and dad went to Pizza Hut for their own family community time of making memories. It was a good, sweet time together. The next time we are all back together will be on the wedding day . . . another time of community and family and friends comes together to stand as God’s picture of community comes together to make a new family.
Family is not my only community. I am thankful for a group of women I meet together with twice a month for Bible study, prayer and just sharing. We come from different backgrounds, different heartaches and joys, and range in age from nearly newlyweds to a widowed senior citizen. Yet, our lives have intertwined to make our own community in a special sister bonding. There’s my “Chicks with Sticks” community– a group of ladies that love to knit, talk, and laugh together! There’s a community of women I wish I did not really know, but we met because of a common bond . . . we have all gone through the death of a child, and we understand those days know one else can truly comprehend.
Community . . .
“For where two or three have gathered together in My name,
I am there in their midst.”
I am thankful for the family community, the small group of women, church/family community, knitters and women where are hearts are connected to share, pray, cry and encourage to live life because of our bond through Jesus.
