Then Sings My Soul Saturday: Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord Blessed be Your name

T

his past week my heart has been singing and rejoicing with our friends Hannah and Jessie.   If you have followed my blog for awhile you may recall how we wept with them over the short 2 day life of their newborn son, Uriah which I shared on January 4, 2010.  I’ve been amazed watching them through their grief as they have grown ~ grieving yet loving on other babies and still rejoicing with other families as they welcome new little ones.

We have rejoiced with them over the past 8 months as a new precious life began to grow, getting glimpses of him through ultrasounds.

Then last Saturday I got a call from Hannah and she said “Listen Loni” and I heard his little baby squeaks! It brought immediate tears and rejoicing. I will never forget those little noises that we so quickly forget and take for granted. I could hardly sleep I was so excited!  The next day, last Sunday, we went to visit them and see little Asher who was born a month early.  He needed oxygen and a little extra help for a few days.  Throughout the week I got text notes from Hannah . . . “I can’t take my eyes off him” . . .  “I nursed him and he did great!”  Ohhhh, the awe and wonder of new life!

TODAY, he went home with his mama and daddy!

I think of the rejoicing as Hannah left the hospital, holding her baby close to her. I think of the carseat that went home, not empty this time.  I think of them walking their baby through the door for their first time, and laying him in his little bassinet – him filling clothes that weren’t filled the last time.  And with Hannah & Jesse and other friends and family, I think heaven rejoices too . . . and little Uriah jumps around rejoicing with the angels in awe.  God is so good!

Blessed Be Your Name by Matt Redman has been a special one of ours.  The first time our son sang a solo in church after our son Matthew died, he sang this.  A few weeks after Hannah’s son went to heaven, we went to a women’s retreat, and this was the first song we sang.

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your glorious name
You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord Blessed be Your name
