T
his book is NOT just for men! Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man’s Soul
should be read by wives and future brides, to better understand the men in their lives. As a homeschool mom, this is a book I want my sons to have as a “required read” before they graduate (and before they get married!)
I do not know where to even begin to share on Wild at Heart, as each of us have different strengths and weaknesses and know those of our spouse as well. What may encourage me as a wife to work on to help my husband with his relationship with God may be so different than what many of my readers need in their lives. Mr. Eldredge states that every man has three main needs: A battle to fight; an adventure to live and a beauty to rescue and then he wonders if he has what it takes to do this.
This is not an owners manual as each marriage, man and woman have different strengths and weakness and different journeys God will lead them through. Wild at Heart gives direction in finding that. It also encourages towards healing for both the man and for us women for the men in our lives that hurt us. He addresses forgiveness . . . and the importance of it in any relationship. (I personally found this to be a chapter that spoke very personally to me.)
As with any book that uses the Bible as it’s basis, there should always be a caution and alertness to make sure that we examine the Scriptures to make sure what is being taught is true. (Acts 17:11) I personally thought Wild at Heart had some great things to think about and to encourage, yet, I believe some things were watered down a bit and digging into Scripture should be done so much more than following what any man or woman says.
