I Am From

~

I am from the dust of the earth, God breathed life.
I am from God in His likeness, a daughter of the most High King.
From trembling giving hands of a frightened birth mother,
To awkward welcoming hands uncertain of parenthood.

~

pink chandelierI am from a suburban ranch brick home,
creaky pocket doors
and a pink chandelier dancing it’s beauty on mirrored walls.
From honeysuckle bushes crimsoned with berries fencing in a private pool
for swims from the high noon sun to stars sprinkling the sky.
From simple TV dinners served on metal TV trays in a shag carpeted, paneled family room.
I am from lumpy oatmeal every Saturday and milky scrambled eggs each Sunday.

~

I am from a hymn singing baritone dad, a radio news broadcaster,
from an only child mom who found miracles happen birthing a first & only baby at 42 –

my missed sister.
I am from a God-fearing grandfather, living in the same home,
with secret taps on the wall each night reminding me of his love.

~

From being told not to “drink or chew, or go with those that do”,
“keep your elbows off the table”, “sit straight”, and
“because I am the mother, that’s why”.
I am from rejection and a broken vessel, though not discarded.
I am from Life is Hard, but God is Good.

~

I am from a white steepled Baptist church, Vacation Bible School and
Sunday School mornings singing Jesus Loves Me.
I am from walking a church aisle to
Just as I Am
,
from a 1982 New Year’s Eve emersion baptism along with my sister.
I am from sin, saved by grace and a new unbroken, mind boggling adoption into the family of God.

~

I am from the sweet smell of malt, the hops of beer in Milwaukee,
melt-in-your-mouth German Schaum Torte
topped with ice cream each Christmas Eve.
I am from the honey taste of Greek Baklava from birth parents,
and 8 siblings who I’ve not all met.

~

gravestonesI am from few childhood pictures and painful, fading memories.
I am from 24 years with my husband and precious gifts of children from God.
I am from overflowing scrapbooks for a dozen children and
two tear-splattered gravestones for children worshiping in heaven.
I am from the journey of mourning and finding joy in the morning.

~

I am from a Book, with my name written in it.

~

I am from the . . . I AM.

Exodus 3:14: “I AM THAT I AM” – (Hebrew: אהיה אשר אהיה, pronounced Ehyeh asher ehyeh, or Yahweh) is the response God used in the Bible when Moses asked for His name, which means Jehovah – meaning “to be, to become” – self-existent One.  (from Bible study book, LORD, I want to Know You, A Devotional Study on the Names of God, by Kay Arthur).

  1. Love your introduction of confidence and joy. God bless your life and make it a legacy to those who know you. Pam

  2. While researching Savingsangel, I came across your website. Thanks for putting all this out there.
Have you ever compared prices at ALDI, Big Lots and doing food co-ops and big box stores like Cost-co and Sam’s with the coupon savings you are doing? I have never been able to justify the time the coupons took and wonder if Savingsangel is worth the $ for just Meijer. Can two or more people do one membership?
Thanks for your time… We have nine kids, (25-8yrs), home schooled for 13 years and know what it’s like to shop for a herd.

    • For us, driving to the stores you mentioned are well over a 45 minute drive, some which include membership fees, time away from my homeschooling the family, gas, etc. So, we have taken all this in account, and it is not worth me making this trip into GR. When I am doing real good with saving coupons, doubling up on coupons (using multiples for good sales) I can get the items MUCH MUCH cheaper than Sam’s, Cost-Co, Aldi’s etc. I know from going to these stores such Sam’s, etc. there are times they do not have the items I do need – so I need to go to multiple places anyway. Since we live more rurally, I do mainly use the coupons at Meijers, Walmart and Walgreens (Walgreens I’ve done VERY well at). There are many times with coupons I get things nearly free. It will take a few months to build up your coupons, to “hold” them until items do go on sale – which at the other stores you mentioned, don’t generally have sales.

Since you are a homeschool mom I HIGHLY recommend having your children be a part of it. Even 3 and 4 year olds can cut out coupons, little older ones can sort them and older ones yet, can help match up to what is on sale via Savings Angel and the papers. This is a great learning experience for them.

The memberships with Savings Angel are per household. However, if you get people to sign up under your name, you get credit for that, and can get it free. This is VERY much worth it! So, Savings Angel does not cost me anything – and saves me a lot! :) Feel free to write back if you have any further questions. Thanks for asking.

  3. Hi Loni,

This is Vicki Anderson. You recently left me a message on my blog, About Face. I was the gal that Randy Alcorn quoted in one of his recent books. Please feel free to contact me, my e-mail address is: vickijoy2001@gmail.com (my middle name is Joy, just like Jessica!) Would love to get in touch.

    For His glory,

    Vicki
