REST . . .

he very first thought that came into my mind, when I read today’s word, rest, was this Scripture verse:
Come to me,
all who labor and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you,
and learn from me,
for I am gentle and lowly in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:28
How often do we not RSVP or get frustrated when we send an invitation out with an RSVP that gets no response. I see this verse as an invitation we so often shove under God’s other promises and invitations. At some point we take out His letter and remember, and respond and accept. In this case He is inviting those that are overwhelmed, weary, and burdened down. He wants to give rest and He be the escape we yearn for. He wants to teach us in a gentle, tenderhearted way, so that we can breath in deeply and rest without despair or anxious thoughts.
It’s an invitation to RSVP with no reply by date. He’s waiting. We can respond now. But He will be there tomorrow too.
Do you need rest? RSVP now.

I love the idea of an RSVP! So often I pass over this verse because the truth of it is so hard to grasp…how can a yoke be light? The earthly impossibility of it makes it hard to realize God’s “possible”. Thanks for this reminder!
I love the idea of “RSVPing” with God. Yes, this is where we find true rest – when we plan to sit with Him and meet Him every day in prayer and Bible study.
Thank you for your post, and I hope you have a wonderful, restful weekend!

What a wonderful and beautifully written post!!
I know there have been times when I have tucked the invitation away for a later date….tried to do things on my own! I am so glad that it is an open invitation and the He is waiting for me when I finally do respond!!
This was so good! An RSVP to rest. I need to make sure to get my response in!
