Sseveral of my readers have asked about the Savings Angel logo,
I have to the right. I’ve not done any posts on it yet, because I wanted to really use it more and prove the savings! It’s not only been fun and exciting, it has really saved us a lot with our groceries and with feeding 10 kids, including boys ages 15, 19 and 21, we need all the help we can get!
Let me explain a little with Savings Angel. It is an on-line resource that helps you combine coupons with area sales to get the best deals. It lists out what is on sale in our locals stores, along with what coupons were in what newspaper date. It also links you to on-line websites for more manufacturer coupons. Now while I can match the coupons I have saved with what is on sale, not only does it save me a lot of time to have it all spelled out for me, but with it finding hundreds of other coupons on-line which I would never have the time to do, it saves me lots of money and time. Savings Angel costs $19.95 a month – BUT stop! Don’t let that scare you! First, you can try it for two weeks free OR buy one month get one month free as a new member (certainly the better deal!). AND . . . if you get people to sign up . . . you receive $10 for each person that signs up and $5 per each month they are a (paying) member. So, you can actually receive your membership for free. Even if these options were not available to get a discount or get it for free, you can easily make up the $19.95 with the unbelieveable savings.
Here’s proof! The picture above is what we purchased and here’s our receipt (click to enlarge). With every item, the milk is the ONLY item we did not get on sale. There were only two items we bought, the milk and a steak, we did not have a coupon for. EVERYTHING else I used coupons for AND was on sale! It took the clerk just as long to scan my coupons as it did all the food items!
Here is a summary of my savings:
Retail value: $268.89
Amount I saved in coupons: $57.75
My final total I paid: $134.46
Amount I saved: $134.43
I SAVED 50%!!
I SAVED over $100! ![]()
One question I am asked often is, “do you buy things you don’t need or would not normally get?” Yes . . . but I am incorporating it into our lives too. For instance, I bought four bags of vegetable steamers. Each bag only feeds three. This normally would not be economical, but, they were on sale at $1 each – and I had $1 off coupon for each – yes, making them FREE! I bought a 3-pack of popcorn for 59 cents! I also purchased numerous cans of soup, to build up our pantry, and microwave ones the boys can take to college/work. I now plan my meals with what we have – what is on sale – and what is in our pantry, instead of “I feel like tacos tonight” and run out and get that.
Another very positive thing with using Savings Angel is that one of my daughters who absolutely hates math, thinks it is totally stupid, is doing 90% of putting the coupons together for me, figuring out what we saved, and helping me with grocery shopping! She will even tell me now “mom, don’t buy that! It won’t be 50% off!” I don’t remind her that she hates percentages!
I never imagined clipping coupons would be part of our homeschooling!
Savings Angel is growing rapidly, but it is not everywhere, yet. As of today’s date it is in mainly in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but is soon to open in Detroit, Minneapolis St. Paul; Orlando; and St. Louis. Check it out if you are in these areas, and be sure to use my I.D. #8104 if you decide to give it a try!

you are great! really great!
Loni, I will have to check into this. It sounds fabulous. While I certainly don’t have as many little Gifts from God that you have – (I have 5 but they are my life) – I still have a family of 7 to feed and any little bit helps. I struggled with the grocery game so I was fearful that savings angel might be similar. I ALWAYS shop on sale, I always cook from scratch, I always use coupons, but if there is somewhere I could find coupons that I didn’t have before I’d be a happy girl. I really wish we had a Meijer. I’ve seen a lot of good things about that store.
Anyway, thanks for the great review and understanding of how it all works. I love your blog.
Hmm–wish it was in WI
Maybe someday soon!! With the hard times we’re facing ahead I think this country will have a renewed interest in being frugal!
