When Life Hurts – Think of the Sand

My daughter took this picture a few days ago of our little “baby” boy (who is 17 months old already). God spoke to me through it, as my heart has been so heavy for numerous dear friends in our lives. It can be so overwhelming when we see the pains of what we can go through, and those around us – and fear what the future holds for our children. When I first saw this picture, it made me think of this Scripture verse we put on it – a reminder I need – and perhaps you do as well. I see his little dimpled hands sifting through the sand, and just think . . . all those little sand grains are not even close to the thoughts God has for him and his future . . . or my hurting and sick friends . . . or the needs you may have today.
As a quick update, since many of you asked about my previous post last week. Our elderly friend, Dean, came home from the hospital yesterday, still recovering from his open heart surgery of 6 bypasses and a heart valve replacement. He still has a long road of recovery, but how thankful we are that God spared his life and he is doing well. Our friends who are concerned about their 9 week old daughter’s eye sight are still not certain of her condition. Though tumors are not apparent, there remains concerns and she will be having an MRI in a few weeks. Please continue to pray for them.
In just the last 48 hours, it seemed storms are facing more of our friends. Yesterday two of our friends went into the hospital. One is a dear friend of mine who gone through thick and thin with us – and now is in the hospital with a colon infection, needing blood transfusions. She is a very gentle-hearted woman who carries the burdens of others so often - and now God has set her aside for healing. She helped us so much during our son’s funeral with our little girls, helped recently with our son’s graduation party, and helped me a lot after our youngest was born. Her son plays guitars with our boys, so our lives are quite intertwined. My little girls just adore her (and so do I). A man who our older children have worked for for many years has been dealing with MS for over 15 years with many complications, is again hosptialized. Yesterday a friend with young homeschooled children, visited with my husband and I ~ her husband died from ALS a few months ago, she is trying to sell her home, and is just plain hurting. I have a friend trying to start a homeschool group, fearing losing another child to the world in our local public schools – another friend going through serious finance struggles. Such big burdens – I am sure many of my readers have as well. Life sure aches at times . . .
So if you are a woman at home, facing life struggles – take a moment out – and yes, sweep the floor. Take a look at that pile you sweep together – and if it is anything like my house, you will find sand – more sand grains than you can count – and it’s not even the beginning of God’s thoughts for you.
